Hello DMS Parents,

We hope to see you TONIGHT at the Devine HIGH School gym for our Open
House activities--a college-readiness night with information tables set up
from over 20 area universities! DMS teachers will also be on hand for
mini-conferences up in the bleachers, or you can schedule a more in-depth
team conference for later in the week or the week following spring break.
Things get underway around 6:30 p.m. Teachers will be available to
conference until 7:30, but then they will be wandering the exhibits with
students and parents until it shuts down around 8:30 p.m.

Our benchmark testing has come to an end now, and in the next few days we
will be busy scoring them and compiling the data. Thus far, we are
encouraged by the preliminary results and think the majority of students
took the tests seriously and gave their best effort. Thank you, parents,
for the excellent job you did in getting students here each day during the
testing. Our attendance was very good. On the 7th and 8th grade TAKS
testing day last Wednesday, we actually had 100% attendance at both of
those grade levels! That was FANTASTIC! Thank you SO MUCH!

I would say that things will be back to normal for a while now, but as I'm
sure you know, "normal" is difficult to define where teenagers and their
schedules are involved! :) This will be a busy week for us leading up to
spring break: college night tonight; cookie dough deliveries; spring
picture-taking; and a great assembly for the kids with an anti-drug and
anti-alcohol message as well as an underlying theme of "Friendship: What
a REAL friend does for you..." There's never a dull moment around this
place... Oh, yes, we've also got the final week of our Pennies for
Patients drive going on. Please flip the sofa cushions, clean off the
dresser top, and grab that cupful of change that's come out of the washer
or dryer and SEND IT IN! We appreciate any donations--no matter how large
or small--ALL will help to make a difference in the lives of cancer
patients and their families.

Please see the attached calendar for more details regarding this week at
DMS, and the weeks to follow. "Hot off the presses"--track practice this
afternoon has been canceled, and the tennis meet in Hondo has been
canceled due to this wonderful wet weather we're having. Hope you have a
sunny and relaxing spring break next week!

Cordially,

Lori L. Marek
Principal
