Dear Parents,
Yesterday, as a precautionary measure, the administration evacuated Devine
High School students to the middle school gym because of a bomb threat.
DHS Administrators allowed students to call their parents to pick them up
and bus riders loaded buses from the middle school. Because the safety of
our students and staff is our top priority, administrators and police did
not allow students or teachers on the campus until the area had been
cleared by a bomb squad.
The district takes a bomb threat very seriously because of student safety
and the impact on instructional time. Therefore, Devine High School
administrators will review the Student Code of Conduct with DHS students,
advising them that a bomb threat is punishable as a felony under Texas
Penal Code. We will continue to ensure your children's safety as we seek
to determine who is responsible for this costly and time-consuming threat.
Because of the lost instructional time, I have asked the DHS
administration to develop a plan to recoup that time through a possible
extended day in the future. We will provide parents notice of that
extended day plan and will provide bus transportation for students who
need it if we implement this plan.
We appreciate the effort of all involved and ask that if anyone has
information regarding this bomb threat, please contact an administrator at
Devine High School or the Devine Police Department.
Devine ISD is committed to providing a safe environment for our students
and wants to thank you for your cooperation during this time.
Thank you,
Linda McAnelly
Interim Superintendent
