September 2009 Here we go again! Welcome to the 2009-2010 school year at Devine High School. By the time you read this, the fifth week of the school year has passed us by. Our students are off to a good start. We are expecting another successful year, although how does a Blue Ribbon high school out do itself!? What has passed us by so far this year you ask? Four weeks of football and volleyball have passed us by with the Warhorses owning a 3 win one loss record and the Arabians holding a 16 win and 5 loss record. Senior rings have been ordered by junior students already. Our modified bonfire took place this past Thursday. Progress reports were issued last week. Homecoming week passed with former students sharing their time with us and visiting with us during our Homecoming football game. Our students participated in homecoming activities such as: pajama day, tacky/crazy day, jungle day, and Hawaiian day. Seniors have are starting to inquire about colleges, taking college entrance tests, and receiving information on college enrollment. We also had a representative from a university presenting to Mr. Morrow’s classes. What’s around the corner or what can you expect to happen at the high school within the next four weeks? Of course, more winning volleyball games and more won football games. Seniors will get all dressed up for their senior pictures on September 28. We will have a UTSA representative on campus for our seniors on October 7 and on October 8 we will take some students to the UTSA campus. On October 12 we will have a “Rachel’s Challenge Stop the Violence” presentation in the gymnasium. October 14 is the day that the PSAT examination will be administered to some of our students. There is still time for our sophomore and junior students to sign up for this test. The cost is $15.00 and only 110 students will be tested. The week of October 19 we will be testing some seniors on the TAKS test. We will close out the month of October with our seniors attending the college fairs at Hondo and Lytle on the 26th and 28th respectively. Parents and guardians should make every effort to contact their child’s
teachers early in the school year. Early communication with teachers has
proven to be a proactive measure on behalf of the students. Call the high
school to make appointments with the appropriate teachers, e-mail the
teachers, check your child’s grades on line, or call your child’s
teachers to leave a message on the teacher’s voicemail. Roland Cadena |
