Coming to the DSAC on November 6th – 6:00 -7:15 p.m. --Drugs, Dares, and Dangerous Tech Trends—Presenters: Larry Rodriguez, Education Service Center Consultant, School Safety Consultant Migrant Education Counselor, and Armando Talamantez, DEA Agent.
Session Description: This workshop is designed to increase drug, alcohol, and technology awareness for school staff and parents. Because of the nature of content covered we prefer that children and teens not attend the presentation. Participants will learn some of the latest and dangerous trends engaging our youth. You will be amazed at the different ways our students are hiding drugs. Attendees will also learn about dangerous apps and technology trends affecting the school community.  Pizza and snacks will also be served and participants will be asked to pre-register. October 16th-- 8:30-10:00 a.m.—The 5 Love Languages—Stephanie Kohlleppel, JJ Ciavarra Elementary Counselor will be presenting “The 5 Love Languages” based on the Gary Chapman books. Mrs. Kohlleppel will be discussing what our own “love language” and what that means, and look at child and teen love languages. Love languages are described as the five ways people speak and understand emotional love. Are you a ‘words of affirmation’ type of person? Or maybe you are a ‘receiving gifts’ person? We will be exploring what each of the 5 mean in order to strengthen our relationships with spouses, friends and children. Please RSVP to Mickie at 210.313.3736 so that we can plan accordingly.

October 17th-  10:00-11:30 a.m.- The Annual Title I Parent and School Information Meeting—DISD administrators and staff will present the requirements for a Title I, Part A school, what programs Title I, Part fund, what family engagement activities are available, components of the School-Parent Compact, and what instructional programs are offered at the two Title I, Part A campuses (JJ Ciavarra Elementary and Devine Intermediate School).

October 23rd – 8:30-9:30 a.m.- How to Practice Reading with Your Child — Jenni Hagdorn - Reading Specialist & Master Reading Teacher/JJ Ciavarra Elementary. Learn practical strategies to make reading fun with your child at home while increasing reading success!

November 6th –8:00 a.m. -12:00 p.m. and 1:00 - 7:30 p.m. -- Hoodies and Goodies- Gently used coats and jackets give-away…just in time for cold weather!

November 13th – 8:30-10:00 a.m.-  Love and Logic –- Stephanie Kohlleppel, JJ Ciavarra Elementary Counselor. Get tips on how to raise self-confident, motivated children who are ready for the real world. Loving, yet powerful tools for parenting children of all ages. 

November 20th – 8:30-9:30 a.m. - Spelling Practice and Routines at Home- Jenni Hagdorn - Reading Specialist & Master Reading Teacher/JJ Ciavarra Elementary. Is practicing spelling at home a challenge? Get tips on fun ways to help your child learn and study spelling at home (without them even knowing it)!
